Application and use
HERMAtherm top el (922) is phenol-free and can be used where labels of smudge-proof thermal paper are required, e.g. for weight labels (meat packers, supermarkets) or for price labels or in logistics. Applications in humid surroundings are possible.
Direct thermal printing is possible with speeds up to 200 mm/s.
The material can also be printed by conventional printing methods. Inks should be suitable for thermal paper (solvent-free), a consultation of the ink supplier is recommended. Complete curing of the ink must be ensured. Due to the thermal sensitive characteristic the web temperature during curing should not exceed 50 °C. In general, it is advisable to carry out pretests under customer-specific conditions to ensure suitability.
The pulp for this paper comes from FSC® certified forest management and other controlled sources.

Regulations concerning contact with food
The thermal paper grade HERMAtherm top el (922) according to the sample material submitted is physiologically and toxicologically safe and may therefore be used in printers and scales for the labelling of goods. However, it may only stand in direct contact with such kinds of foodstuffs which are empirically peeled, shelled and/or washed before consumption (ISEGA Research and Development Institute, Aschaffenburg).
